Since Aladdin are arabian and muslim, here are my points
All of those characters' names are arabic which now use by muslims
Sultan did say "Allah" when he talking to Jasmine
There are many arabic script on the wall of indoor and outdoor of palace
In TV series, there is one king from other state, he was called Mohammed
It is enough evidence that they are muslims and arabians.
As for Princess Jasmine, I never understand why Disney Company design her as Harem type which most women wore like this in the past at Islamic Golden Era were slaves of Kings. Princess is not a slave but a daughter of King. So I thought to design proper princess look.
Its a very fascinating comparison. You make some very good points. It would seem to me that the Muslim women are usually portrayed as all covered up, and yet Disney portrayed Jasmine so bare. Would an Arabian princess back in the old days really show her bare midriff? I would think not. That would not have been proper for an Arabic woman, especially not a princess. So this is a very good drawing. It definitely makes one stop and think, especially about the way Disney portrays their characters. I wish they would make them more historically accurate. Good job. I like it.
I have been seen many Jasmine drawings and I drew many new Jasmine Outfits. This picture is like making a comparison and contrast between the two. I really like what you said about the two dresses. You do make sense on the original dress. I just don't understand why Disney wanted her to wear something that screams slave and not daughter of king. That doesn't make sense. I really love your idea of Jasmine's outfit. It looks so original and yet so creative. I got to say that some of my new Jasmine outfits may or may not live up to your idea of what Jasmine's out would look like. I wish Disney could make her an out that makes her daughter of king, not Slave. Very good job indeed.
I am Muslim, but unfortunately I does not understand(include) your point of view at the level of the women in disney, especially with regard to(compared with) Jasmine. Yes she is Muslim, yes she is Arabic, but you should not especially forget that Disney is American and that cartoons are intended for children and not for other purpose... Girl dream about free, beautiful princess, who goes out of the context of their life. And to put would break their dream. And disney tends to make girl dream and not to impose them dress codes but if not, it's a good job.
I think it looks lovely and correct in a way. The dress would look like something she would wear in those times. Well done. Though, I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but the Jasmine you drew is noticeably lighter in skin color compared to her original counterpart. Your thoughts?
I love it, I just think it would look better without the feather and the hat, they don't match the rest of the outfit and it seems a-little over the top. The veil and the bejewelled...headdress or earring? are gorgeous though. I wasn't keen on her main outfit, I always preferred her in purple dresses/outfits with the veils or veiled skirts.
I like the concept.... and I think I prefer your idea of her dress a lot better than her original outfit... I've always preferred Jasmine in other clothing concepts than what she's put in.
Although, I gotta point out, Disney isn't always accurate with any of their stuff...Especially of their classic tales.... The real stories are much more brutal then how Disney portrays them to be...
Yeah, considering wasn't the original Aladdin an oriental tale? This makes it very Arabian. Aladdin should have been set in an oriental country not Arabian.
